Gardening Topics presented at Carroll County Libraries

University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners will sponsor gardening workshops at local libraries in Carroll County this fall.  These workshops are open to the public and there is no fee to attend.

Cooking with Herbs will be presented at 5:30pm September 11 at the Thomson Library and 5:30 pm September 19 at the Mt. Carroll Library. Participants will cook a light meal and take home recipes to share with family and friends. If interested contact the library to register at 815-244-1751; Mt. Carroll and 815-259-2480; Thomson.

The Art of Pressed Flowers will be presented at the Savanna Library on Sept 24 at 5:30 pm. This class will discuss the best flowers to be pressed, how to dry the flowers and projects using the dried flowers. Using pressed flowers and ferns, class participants will make a bookmark and a card to take home. To register for the workshop call the library at 815-273-3714.

Fall Garden Care will be presented at the Lanark Library on October 3 at 4:00pm. Proper garden care in the fall helps ensure healthy plants the next spring. Learn techniques for taking care of your lawn, trees, shrubs, and perennials, including fall fertilizing, mulching, cutting back plants, and protecting plants from wind and animals. Get pointers for fall planting of woody plants and spring-flowering bulbs. To register for the workshop call the library at 815-493-2166.
