Hard work and dedication pay off for Illinois 4-H Livestock Quiz Bowl team

CLINTON, Ill. — A DeWitt County 4-H member recently competed on the Illinois 4-H Livestock Quiz Bowl team in the National Livestock 4-H Quiz Bowl Competition in Louisville, Ky. The 4-H team was named fourth in the nation for their performance.

Davis Howell from DeWitt County earned a place on the Illinois 4-H quiz bowl team by competing in an event during the Illinois State Fair this summer. Other team members included Ellie Drach of Livingston County, Lauren Wolter of Clinton County, Cole Paulek of Christian County, Hannah Miller of Livingston County, and coach Eric Fugate of Champaign County.

“This is our first dedicated quiz bowl team,” says team coach Eric Fugate. “We definitely surpassed our expectations.”

Livestock Bowl is a quiz competition where the questions center around beef, sheep, swine, and meat goat topics. A moderator reads the question, and students buzz in to answer. The Illinois team completed seven rounds during the national competition, answering individual and toss-up questions to score points.
