Illinois Extension and Master Gardeners invite holiday enthusiasts for the annual Horticulture for the Holidays workshop on Saturday, December 7 from 9 a.m. to noon at Lockwood Park in the Cookhouse (5201 Safford Rd., Rockford). Participants will complete two make-and-take projects that demonstrate how to incorporate natural into seasonal celebrations and gift giving.
A holiday picture frame with seasonal garland will be made with the guidance of Master Gardener Brenda Smith. This project involves decorating picture frames with ribbons, wood cutouts and decorative accents such as berries and pinecones.
Master Gardener Beth Edwards will lead a holiday pomanders project. To make a modern version of a pomander, oranges, cloves and other natural items are used. These sweet and spicy smelling balls are great as a holiday decoration or as use as a sachet.
The program fee of $25 includes all workshop materials and refreshments. Pre-registration and payment are required to secure your spot. Please register by November 29 to ensure we have enough materials. For more information or to register, visit extension.illinois.edu/jsw or call the Winnebago County Extension Office at 815-986-4357.
