Horticulture Webinars Offered at Decatur Public Library

DECATUR, Ill.— When those few but precious beams of sunlight pour into your windows, are you thinking about spring? Why not register for University of Illinois Extension’s Four Seasons free webinars?

The first webinar in the spring series will be 1:30 p.m. on April 14.  Slow Flowers: Grow Your Own Cut Flowers will be presented by Candice Hart, University of Illinois State Master Gardener Specialist. Candice will discuss how to grow a variety of cut flowers, the benefits of having cut flowers in the garden, and how to condition them to be long-lasting.

The second webinar, Landscape Design with Natives 101, will be 1:30 p.m. on May 5 and will compare and define native landscape versus conventional landscaping. Horticulture Educator Austin Little will discuss designing with natives and the practical implications of native plants in home and urban landscape.

The final webinar in the spring series, Illinois Monarch Plan, will be 1:30 p.m. on May 26 and is a discussion of the Illinois Monarch Action Plan. Maria Turner, University of Illinois State Integrated Pest Management Specialist, will provide information on the development of this action plan.

Participants may attend an on-site viewing of the webinars at the Decatur Public Library, 130 S. Franklin St., Decatur or participants may view remotely from the comfort of their own home or anywhere they access the internet. Participants need to be registered by the day before webinar.

To register for remote viewing visit go.illinois.edu/FourSeasons. The registration deadline for remote viewing is also the day before the webinar. A confirmation email with webinar connection details and session handouts will be sent to those who choose to remotely view the webinar.

The horticulture program is a branch of University of Illinois Extension that provides research-based information and training about soil testing, tree health, lawn care, pest identification and control, vegetable gardening and more. Extension’s Four Seasons Gardening program focuses on environmental stewardship, home gardening and backyard food production. The horticulture program also provides Master Gardener training.
