Illinois Extension offers free Learning, Thinking, Caring Webinar Series

Long-term care professionals and other professionals who work with older adults now have an easy and convenient way to participate in professional development. University of Illinois Extension is proud to present the free three-part Learning, Thinking, Caring Webinar Series this fall.

This monthly online educational program starting in October will provide senior health care professionals with timely, research-based information and strategies for quality client care. Individuals and long-term care facilities are invited to participate in one or all three webinars at no cost conveniently from a desktop, tablet or smart phone. • Communication Challenges and Strategies for Helping People with Dementia will be 2 to 3 p.m. CST on Wednesday, October 9. This session will review communication strategies for better interactions with individuals who experience Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

• How High Do You Bounce? Workplace Resiliency in Long Term Care will be 2 to 3 p.m. CST on Thursday, November 14. This program will explore the characteristics of resilient people and explore practical ideas and strategies for building self-resilience in challenging work environments and health care settings.

• Nutrient Needs of the Aging Adult will be 2 to 3 p.m. CST on Wednesday, December 4. This session will explore nutrient needs, the physiology behind differing needs and the relationship of those needs with malnutrition and food-drug interactions. Tools to assess risks and recommendations for improving nutritional status will also be reviewed.

The Illinois Extension Nutrition & Wellness program encourages individuals, families and communities to live healthier through online and in-person skill sharing. Learn about managing diabetes and heart disease, safely preserving foods, being food-safe at home and making healthier choices when shopping, cooking and meal planning.
