As more families consider raising their own food, chickens are a popular choice for a fresh source of eggs. Chickens are wonderful stewards of the earth and, kept in proper conditions, are valuable assets to the garden, lawn, and compost pile. They also provide backyard joy.

Learn the basics of caring for chickens, from housing to health in a free online webinar offered by University of Illinois Extension beginning at 10 a.m. May 7. Extension Local Foods Educator James Theuri will provide tips for starting and managing a flock of laying chickens, including egg production, housing, nutrition, and health management.

Just prior to the webinar date, you will receive a link to join in the webinar. A good internet connection and updated Java application is recommended.  I-Pads and tablets are not recommended.

Illinois Extension provides equal opportunities in programs and employment. If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate in this program, please call 217-300-9518 at least two weeks prior to the event. Illinois Extension offers practical, research-based programs that help people improve their lives and address critical community issues involving youth, families, economics, health and natural resources.
