What is more fascinating than seeing a fully developed baby chick emerge from an egg? Just 21 days of incubation transforms a seemingly lifeless chicken egg into an active, living being.

This hands-on project is designed to give your students the opportunity to hatch chicks in their own classroom. During the 21-day incubation period, students learn to prepare eggs, set up an incubator, record progress, turn eggs, and test eggs for fertility. The project aligns with state learning standards.

Beginner Embryology is February 8, 2022, 4:30 p.m. at the Extension office, 1650 Commerce Dr, Bourbonnais, IL. This interactive 2-hour training prepares teachers with the knowledge they need to hatch eggs in their classrooms. This is a required training for teachers who have not previously been trained or need to re-certify.

The training fee is $35 which includes the training, 2 dozen fertile eggs, starter chick feed, curriculum, and teacher resource packet..

If you have already been through a teacher training with us in the past three years, you may order eggs without training. Eggs only orders are $10 per dozen which includes starter chick feed. Egg orders and registration are due by: January 31, 2022. Other Important Details about this Classroom Project:  Egg pick-up is February 22, 2022 from (7-9 am) at the Extension Office. Long term chick care drop off is March 18, 2022 (4-5 pm) at the Extenison office.

Please note: Teachers must provide their own incubators to participate in this classroom project.
