Do you love the outdoors, learning new skills, and going on mini-adventures including hiking, first aid, navigation, and overnight camping??  Then join us for a summer of fun and adventure!

This summer, youth age 10-14 can participate in a fun, hands-on outdoor program at Goose Lake Prairie State Natural Area (and the Grundy County Extension office in the event of inclement weather), and Gebhard Woods State Park, Morris.

We will use the 4-H project guides Outdoor Adventures - Hiking Trails (level 1), and Camping Adventures (level 2) as the basis of our learning and will get as far as we can during our time together.  Topics may include the following:

  • Hiking Trails level 1 (focus on day hiking)
    • Planning a day hike (gear, food, first aid kit, Leave No Trace, compass, safety, shelters, plants & animals)
  • Camping Adventures level 2
    •  Planning for overnight camping (gear, knots, food, night hikes, tools, and more!)

On the last program day, youth will participate in a culminating event where they will demonstrate their skills and knowledge by participating in skills challenges.  Then, families can book their own overnight camping spot (optional) at Gebhard Woods State Park and enjoy overnight camping on Saturday, August 19!
