From rural farms to suburban neighborhoods, ponds adorn our landscapes, providing both aesthetic beauty and ecological significance.

However, without proper management, ponds can face a myriad of challenges over time. To address common issues such as weed management, fish selection, and overall pond care, University of Illinois Extension is excited to announce a Pond Management Workshop on Friday, April 26th, starting at 5:30 pm.

The workshop will kick off with a delightful fish fry, generously provided by the Baebler Educational Farm and the Monroe County Extension & 4-H Foundation. There will be a presentation by Eric Ratcliff, a seasoned Fisheries Biologist from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Ratcliff will share fundamental pond management techniques and delve into specific strategies for maintaining healthy ponds. Following the presentation, participants will have the opportunity for hands-on learning as they visit a local pond with Ratcliff to observe different fish species and discuss tailored management approaches.

Regardless of weather conditions, the program will proceed as scheduled and attendance is free and open to all who are interested in improving their understanding of pond management.

Interested individuals are required to register by Noon on Monday, April 22nd. For further information and inquiries, please contact Nathan Johanning at njohann@illinois.edu or reach out to the Monroe County Extension office.
