What in the world is plant biotechnology??

Join us for the Plant Biotechnology Program hosted at the Grundy County Extension Office (4004 N Division Street, Morris, IL 60450). Sessions will start at 1pm and last approximately 1- 1.5 hours

Dates and Session Topics: 

June 18th: Plant Classification: Decoding Plant Types

Use a classic botanist practice known as the dichotomous key to identify common plants and trees.

June 25th: Take the Apple Taste Test

Put your taste buds to the test by trying different types of apples to see how scientist have evolved this fabulous fruit over hundreds of years. 

July 9th: Pinpointing Plant Parts

Learn how to identify and classify each part of a plant, and take a closer look at the types of plants that you regularly eat. 

July 16th: Design Your Own Corn

Determine a pretend corn’s DNA destiny with the flip of a coin.

July 30th: Engineer a Greenhouse

Design and construct a model greenhouse using simple craft materials. 

August 13th: Mustard Mania! A DIY Biotech Board Game

Learn more about plant biotechnology by playing a board game that introduces you to common genetic modifications.
