MONTICELLO, Ill. – Need a space to grow? Applications are now available for the 2020 growing season at The Monticello Area Community Garden. Dig in this summer and grow your favorite vegetables, herbs and flowers at a conveniently located and organic community garden.

No gardening experience? No problem. University of Illinois Extension in Piatt County invites returning gardeners and new applicants to a Kick-off Meeting at 6:30 p.m. on April 20 at the Extension Office located at 210 S. Market St., Monticello. Come with questions, and learn about the community garden guidelines, organic planting methods and how to apply.

The garden plots are located on the Kirby Medical Center campus. A full-size garden plot is 12’x24’ and a half-size plot is 12’x12’. An annual fee and deposit will be due with the application. The garden will be open May 1 to October 1.

The garden guidelines and applications are also available online at go.illinois.edu/DigIn. Apply by May 15. For more information, contact Beth Miglin at (217) 762-2191 or bmiglin@illinois.edu.

The community garden is provided through a partnership between the city of Monticello, Kirby Medical Center and University of Illinois Extension in Piatt County. The Illinois Extension horticulture program provides research-based information and training about soil testing, tree health, lawn care, pest identification and control, vegetable gardening and more. The horticulture program also provides Master Gardener training.
