The Backyard Orchard

Come join Illinois Extension Local Foods and Small Farms Educator Grant McCarty as he presents The Backyard Orchard. This program is being held on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to noon OR from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jo Daviess County Extension Office, 204 Vine St Elizabeth, IL. The cost of this program is $5 and pre-registration is requested. Whether you already have fruit trees established on your property and are looking to improve them and help them thrive, or you want to start your own backyard orchard this program is for you!

The Backyard Orchard program is designed for people with already established fruit trees or those who are looking to get started in setting up an orchard. Topics that will be covered include variety selection, trellising/support, day 1 of planting, pruning, insect/disease management, and harvest. The types of fruit trees covered will be apples, peaches, pears, and plums along with other unique fruit trees.
