Two local Illinois Extension Master Gardener groups donated books about bats to the Marshall Public Library in honor of their admired peer from Marshall, Mike Sekerak, who passed away in 2021.
A trained Master Gardener since 2016, Sekerak's specialty was bats. He volunteered many hours in the program, teaching about bats and their place in nature, enlightening youth about butterflies at area schools, and sharing his knowledge about many horticulture areas.
The books donated were Bats - An Illustrated Guide to All Species by Marianne Taylor, The Bat Book by Charlotte Milner, Zipping, Zapping, Zooming Bats by Ann Earle, and The Secret Life of the Little Brown Bat by Laurence Pringle.
Alyson Thompson from the Marshall Public Library encourages the public to check out these new books and learn something unique about bats. If you would like more information on becoming a Master Gardener and sharing your love of horticulture, contact the Extension Office in Paris at 217-465-8585.
