CLINTON— Twenty-nine 4-H members competed for top honors at the State 4-H Rifle Shoot held Oct. 12-13 at Central Illinois Precision Shooters in Bloomington. Fifteen-year-old Morgan Drozs from Farmer City finished 5th in the state with a score of 1075. Her fifth-place finish qualifies her for the 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships in Grand Island, Ne in June 2020.
Morgan has been in Jimtown 4-H Club for eight years and is the daughter of Chris and Kathi Drozs.
“Morgan is a talented and hardworking young woman and a dedicated 4-H’er," said Lindsey Burden, Dewitt County 4-H Youth and Development Program Coordinator, "I am very proud of her and cannot wait to see what else she accomplishes in life.”
The small-bore .22 caliber division of the competition tests the participants’ ability to shoot from three positions, lying prone, kneeling or sitting, and standing. In addition, participants shoot from different distances, either 25 or 50 feet. For some rounds, the youth must take all five shots within a 25-second time limit; other rounds allow up to 15 minutes to complete the set of shots.
The 4-H program is provided through University of Illinois Extension and is open to youth ages 8 to 18. Youth learn skills for living by participating in individual or group learning experiences related to more than 200 project areas. Find Dewitt County 4-H on Facebook.
