Exploring Opportunities, Challenges of Wind Energy in Central Illinois

MONTICELLO – Join University of Illinois Extension on October 7 for a community forum and Q&A on wind energy in Central Illinois. “Wind energy in Illinois is going to experience explosive growth,” said forum presenter Dr. David Loomis.

What Should a Community Consider Regarding Wind Energy is designed for landowners and communities and focuses on the realities of renewable energy, recent technical developments and the economic impacts. “Landowners need to consider the long-term implications before signing a contract with a developer,” said Extension Educator Stanley Solomon. “While there are definite benefits to wind energy, the impacts on agriculture and future development of the land should be part of the decision. Limitations on locations and construction of new buildings, aerial crop spray applications, and practical cultivation equipment sizes should be considered."

The forum will be 6 p.m. Monday, October 7 at the Livingston Center, 224 E. Livingston St., Monticello 61856. Speakers will be Stanley Jay Solomon Extension Educator in Environmental and Energy Stewardship and Dr. David G. Loomis Professor of Economics and Executive Director of Institute for Regulatory Policy Studies at Illinois State University.
