Families needed for 4-H family virtual food challenge

DECATUR, Ill. –  Does your family enjoy making meals together? Is there a young chef in your home that experiments with meal ingredients? Or is your inner chef calling out? If the answer to at least one of these questions is yes, University of Illinois Extension 4-H in Macon County invites your family to participate in the 4-H Virtual Food Challenge this December.

The 4-H Virtual Food Challenge is December 6 to December 12. Families have the task of creating a unique dish using a list of five pre-determined "secret ingredients."  Dishes are created using cooking or baking skills and are judged based on the use of ingredients, presentation, and creativity. Entry deadline for created dishes is December 12 by 9 p.m.

"This event provides an opportunity for our current 4-H members to practice cooking and baking skills that they have learned doing their projects, and it also encourages family time," says Olivia Warren 4-H Extension program coordinator. "For our future members, the 4-H Virtual Family Food Challenge is a fun introduction to 4-H and the variety of programs that we offer and also provides those families an opportunity to have fun creating something new and original."

Families may register for this event by December 1 at go.illinois.edu/dmpEvents or by calling (217) 877-6042. A list of "secret" ingredients, judging requirements, and how to submit the final entry for judging will be emailed once registration is complete. Pre-packaged food kits are available on a first-come-first-serve basis for $10 and will be available for pick-up on Friday, December 4 from the Macon County Extension office located at 3351 N. President Howard Brown Blvd., Decatur.

For more information regarding this program, please contact Olivia at owarren@illinois.edu.

If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate in this program, please contact (217) 877-6042. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time for meeting access needs.
