Find Your Spark During Spring Break with 4-H Grundy County

MORRIS, Ill. – Learning by doing and trying new things is a great way to engage and excite young learners.  University of Illinois Extension invites youth to participate in the upcoming Spring Break with 4-H program.

The Spring Break program will spark youth interest in a wide variety of topics from gardening to outdoor skills, STEM, and more.  The program is for youth aged 10-18 and will be held at the Grundy County Extension Office in Morris March 31 – April 1, 2022, from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  Advanced registration is required at go.illinois.edu/springbreak22 by March 10.

The program will allow youth to explore a variety of topics and participate in hands-on activities in emergency preparedness, outdoor skills, natural resources, and STEM.  Emergency Preparedness is a lifelong skill in which youth learn how to be prepared for emergencies, how to create an emergency to-go kit and develop a family communication plan.  Outdoor skills will introduce youth to Illinois natural areas, they’ll learn navigation and observation skills, and how to tie purposeful knots.  Youth will build an eco-chamber, a bird feeder and learn about Illinois geology and fossils and even create their own “fossil” in the natural resources program.  During STEM programming, youth will build a woodworking project using power tools, create a marshmallow catapult and mini balancing beam.

ABOUT ILLINIOS 4-H: Illinois 4-H is the flagship youth development program of University of Illinois Extension and administered through the College of Agriculture, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences.  4-H grows true leaders, youth who are empowered for life today and prepared for a career tomorrow.  The hands-on approach in 4-H gives young people guidance, tools, and encouragement, and then puts them in the driver’s seat to make great things happen.  Independent research confirms the unparalleled impact of the 4-H experience, demonstrating that young people are four times more likely to contribute to their communities; two times more likely to make healthier choices; two times more likely to be civically active; and two times more likely to participate in STEM programs.

ABOUT EXTENSION: Illinois Extension leads public outreach for University of Illinois by translating research into action plans that allow Illinois families, businesses, and community leaders to solve problems, make informed decisions, and adapt to changes and opportunities.
