Join Illinois Extension Local Foods and Small Farms Educator Grant McCarty as he hosts his second round of Get Growing Webinars. The second round of webinars are scheduled for Friday mornings from 10 to 11:30 a.m. starting on May 22 and going through June 5. You must register for the webinars which will be held using the Zoom platform so that you can receive the link and password to join the meeting. On May 22 the topic will be Managing Vegetable Garden Pests. Grant will be discussing pests like Japanese beetles, chipmunks, slugs, and many others that are known to wreak havoc in a newly planted vegetable garden. Grant will share strategies about how to limit the destruction of these pests and control them to help ensure you are on the right path towards a great season.
On May 29 the topic will be Container Vegetable Gardening. During this webinar Grant will discuss the strategy of growing vegetables in containers. Container vegetable gardening is a great approach to take is you do not have the space or you need to move your plants around during the season. Topics that will be covered include the basics of getting started, selecting the right containers for the right plants, general management, and trouble-shooting.
The final webinar in the series will be held on June 5 and the topic will be Growing Herbs and Others. Along with summer vegetables, herbs deserve a place in the garden. This webinar will get into the basics of choosing herbs, planting, managing, and trouble-shooting. In addition, tea garden herbs will be covered.
