Learn how to identify beautiful fall foliage with tree walks

DECATUR, Ill. – With fall arriving soon, many look forward to trees covered with fiery red and glowing orange leaves. Fully appreciate their beautiful fall canvas by learning to identify trees during Tree ID Walks hosted by University of Illinois Extension.

Tree ID Walks has three date and location options:

  • 9 to 11 a.m. on Oct. 1 at Fairview Park, 2095 W Eldorado St., Decatur, Ill. Please meet by the large pavilion.
  • 1 to 3 p.m. on Oct. 7 at Piatt County Forest Preserve Park, 700 E. Wilson St., Bement, Ill.
  • 9 to 11 a.m. on Oct. 8 at Weldon Springs State Park, 4734 Weldon Springs Rd., Clinton, Ill. Please meet at the Lakeview Hill Picnic Area.

Participants will learn how to identify trees by more than just leaves. Twig, bug, and bark characteristics will be discussed. Register up to one day before at go.illinois.edu/TreeWalks. The horticulture program is a branch of University of Illinois Extension that provides research-based information and training about soil testing, tree health, lawn care, pest identification and control, vegetable gardening, and more.
