Pressure canning 101 with Extension

DECATUR, Ill. — Get ready for summer harvest by learning how to preserve food safely with University of Illinois Extension. Learn the science behind food preservation and safe pressure canning with Pressure Canning 101, part of the Yes! You Can series with Nutrition and Wellness Educator Caitlin Mellendorf.

These free virtual classes will teach the basics of pressure canning at home and provide the latest safety guidelines. Participants will learn how to use dial-gauge and weighted-gauge pressure canners to can a variety of low-acid foods, including meats and vegetables at home.

There will be two opportunities to participate in the Pressure Canning 101 classes. August 5 from 7 to 8 p.m. is the first class. A repeat of the class will be August 12 from 10 to 11 a.m. Webinars are free but you must be registered by the day before the class starts.
