Valerie Brudi inducted into Illinois 4-H Hall of Fame

Elizabeth, ILL [September 8, 2021]—Valerie Brudi, a club leader in Jo Daviess County, was recently named to the Illinois 4-H Hall of Fame for her leadership and mentoring role as a volunteer. The Hall of Fame honors volunteers and former staff members for their dedication to the University of Illinois Extension 4-H Youth Development program. Valerie was nominated by Jo Daviess County extension staff and is one of 71 individuals that were recognized during a virtual ceremony on August 17.

Valerie has been a volunteer with the Jo Daviess County 4-H program for 11 years. During her time with 4-H, Valerie has held several different responsibilities including being a leader at the club level, horse superintendent, swine superintendent, and being on the awards committee. In her role as a club leader, Valerie serves as the liaison between club members and the 4-H program/Extension staff. Some of her duties as a club leader include hosting club meetings and activities, recruiting new youth as well as helping current 4-H youth select their projects for the 4-H show. Valerie is also a co-leader for the 4-H Federation, the teen leadership group. She helps plan programs and activities throughout Jo Daviess county for 4-H youth interested in learning leadership skills.

“Valerie is a dedicated 4-H leader, valued volunteer and a proud parent to three active 4-H members,” explains Angela Miller, University of Illinois Extension 4-H Youth and Development Program Coordinator. “Valerie does so much behind the scenes for our program and is one of those volunteers that we have on speed-dial because she is always willing to lend a hand no matter the circumstance.”

Valerie, a Stockton resident, lives with her husband, Brad. She has four children and 2 grandchildren. She works at FHN in Freeport.

Volunteers in 4-H share skills and experience to help 4-H youth become confident, young leaders. There are many ways to make a difference in the lives of young people through 4-H. Volunteers can lead clubs, teach a skill, judge projects, plan or help at an event, and serve on an advisory board.
