Susan Sloop is the County Director for Clark, Crawford, and Edgar counties. She leads a team dedicated to building strong community partnerships, developing impactful programs, and ensuring that Extension services effectively meet the diverse needs of the local communities. Susan is committed to supporting the mission of the University of Illinois Extension by fostering programs that enhance local well-being, provide educational opportunities, and address critical community challenges.
Since joining Extension in 2015, Susan has been instrumental in developing and delivering programs tailored to local needs. As a Family Life Educator in Franklin, Jackson, Perry, Randolph, and Williamson counties, she focused on early childhood development, healthy aging, and family resilience, addressing key areas of social-emotional wellness. Her work contributed to the expansion of vital programs that directly support the Extension mission of improving the lives of Illinois residents.
Susan has extensive expertise in positive youth development, having served as a 4-H Youth Development Educator, where she developed and delivered programs that engaged youth in meaningful experiences. She then transitioned to the role of Extension Specialist with the State 4-H Office, focusing on statewide initiatives that expanded access to 4-H programs. In both roles, she collaborated with educators and local partners to implement youth development programs that foster leadership, citizenship, and life skills in young people across Illinois.
Susan holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science from Indiana State University and a Post-Baccalaureate Elementary Education Teaching Certificate from Western Governors University. Her extensive experience in program development and community engagement strengthens her ability to support the University of Illinois Extension’s mission at the county level.
Susan is a member of the National Association of Extension 4-H Youth Development Professionals and Epsilon Sigma Phi.
