Susan Glassman is a Health and Community Wellness, Food and Nutrition Educator with University of Illinois Extension, serving Bureau, LaSalle, Marshall, and Putnam Counties. Susan is passionate about helping individuals and families build the knowledge and skills needed to plan, shop for, and prepare healthy foods that support healthier lifestyles. Through the University of Illinois Extension, she provides educational programming focused on chronic disease prevention and management, food safety, canning and food preservation, and the Mediterranean diet.
Her programs are offered both in-person and virtually and explore a variety of food and nutrition topics. They promote lifelong learning and often include engaging demonstrations and hands-on food labs where participants build practical skills such as breadmaking and water-bath canning.
Susan holds a Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition (Dietetics) and a Master of Science in Health Education and Administration from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Although most of her career has been with Illinois Extension, she brings experience in nutrition counseling, adjunct teaching, volunteer coordination, and event management.
Her work has been recognized with several awards from the University of Illinois Extension, the Illinois Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (IEAFCS), and the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (NEAFCS). She is especially proud to have received the Illinois Extension Individual Excellence Award in 2025.
Susan is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and a Certified Food Protection Manager through the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals. She is an active member of the Illinois Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, and Epsilon Sigma Phi.
