Amphibians are good indicators of environmental quality. They absorb chemicals through their skin. Many species have experienced declines due to changes in their habitats and increase in pollution levels.

Frog calling surveys help forest preserve districts monitor these changes for ecosystem management plants.

Male frogs and toads of each species advertise their presence to females by producing a distinctive call.

In this program we will learn how to identify those calls and estimate numbers of these species different species in some e of the Kankakee Valley Forest Preserve District locations.

We will begin our adventure at the Shannon Bayou, 3301 Waldron Rd. in Aroma Park. We will visit Aroma Land and Water Reserve located at 1578 S. Heiland Road in St. Anne. Please dress for the weather and wear clothes and we will be in mud.  This event will be held in all weather conditions (except hazardous weather).

Please join us May 12, 2021 at 7pm. There is no fee to attend this event but pre-registration is required by May 7, 2021.
