Mental health and substance use issues are common today. Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders in adults. This training will also provide you with the skills needed to offer and provide initial help and how to guide a person toward appropriate care if necessary. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, psychosis, and addictions. You will learn and practice a five-step action plan to provide mental health first aid.
Participants will complete a 2-hour, self-paced online training before joining the instructors for the 6-hour in-person class on July 22. The pre-training can be completed at your convenience but needs to be done before July 19. For more information, contact Karla Belzer at kbelzer@illinois.edu or 815-632-3611.
There is no fee for this grant-funded course and lunch will be provided. Residents and professionals of Carroll County are eligible to participate. Free CEUs are available for LPC, LCPC, LSW, LCSW professionals.
