Join University of Illinois Extension Forestry Specialist Chris Evans for a Beginner Chainsaw Safety Course taking place on Friday, October 18 beginning at 9 a.m. at Oakdale Nature Preserve, 4433 Cranes Grove Road, Freeport, IL. This course will focus on hands chainsaw safety training. Topics that will be discussed include PPE, safety features of a chainsaw, proper handling and starting procedures, 5-step plan for tree felling, hinge design for directional felling, and understanding compression and tension forces in wood (i.e. how not to get your bar pinched).
