Transform your garden into a pollinator-friendly, sustainable space in this Native Landscape Design Workshop. Join us for this two-part native landscape design workshop. Part 1, Creating a Native Garden from Scratch lecture allows you to learn design principles and explore native plant selection to create beautiful, drought-resistant landscapes that benefit wildlife. Part 2, the Individualized landscape coaching session allows for personalized advice on your landscape.

Native plants are beautiful, beneficial to wildlife, and adapted to weather extremes, but how do you make them look their best in your home landscape? Learn design principles and native plant selection in this workshop with University of Illinois Extension.

Workshop PART I - Creating a Native Garden From Scratch lecture - Thursday, January 23, 5:30 to 8 pm, Sangamon Extension Office (700 S Airport Drive, Springfield). Creating a Native Garden From Scratch educational lecture will be presented by Extension Horticulture Educator and Extension volunteers. This session will introduce why create a native garden, design concepts, plant lists, examples of plant research, site assessment and preparation, and incorporating native plants into the landscape. (Lecture is required as a prerequisite by either attending September 7 session held at Lincoln Memorial Garden, or January 23 session held at Illinois Extension)

Workshop PART II – Coaching Session for participants to apply what they have learned - Saturday, February 8, 1 to 4 pm, Lincoln Memorial Garden (2301 East Lake Shore Drive, Springfield). Extension volunteers will provide guidance on drafting a personalized garden layout. Prior to attending the coaching session, participants will need to identify a planting area, the dimensions of the selected area, and review plant selections. Capacity for coaching sessions is limited and attendance at the lecture does not guarantee a spot in a coaching session.
