The Illinois Master Gardener Program is celebrating its golden anniversary and you are invited!

Illinois Extension is celebrating the golden anniversary of our Master Gardener program – that's fifty years of fulfilling our mission of Helping Others Learn to GrowTo mark the event, celebrations for Master Gardeners and the public are being held throughout the state. 
 
Here in the northeastern counties, our celebration date is Tuesday, June 17, 2025 – if you are a volunteer, we want to honor you with a day filled with education, nature, shopping, and community!

Event itinerary

The event will take place at locations across the northeastern counties and you can sign up for the full itinerary or build your own itinerary to fit your interests and schedule:
  • 9:30-10:30 a.m. Lake Katherine Tour
  • 10:30-11:30 Networking (Lake Katherine Community Room)
  • Afternoon Greenhouse Tours
  • 12:30-1:30 p.m. Teds Greenhouse Tour, Tinley Park
  • 1:00-2:00 p.m. Possibility Place Nursery, Monee
  • 3:00-4:00 p.m. Sunrise Nursery, Grant Park
 
We hope you can join us to celebrate your accomplishments as a Master Gardener. From humble beginnings, the Illinois Extension Master Gardeners program has bloomed throughout the state, providing valuable gardening knowledge and cultivating impactful projects, creating momentum for the future.  We hope you will join us to celebrate!

More information about the anniversary

The Master Gardener program took root at Washington State University in 1973 and has since been implemented across the United States in all 50 states, including Illinois. The Master Gardener program of Washington State University Extension remains a flagship initiative. This year, we celebrate 50 years of impact for the Illinois Extension Master Gardener program, highlighting the mission of "Helping Others Learn to Grow."
