FREEPORT, ILL. The warm weather and longer summer days are perfect for getting outdoors, moving more, and boosting your health. Whether you’re an early riser or prefer the evening breeze, staying active can improve mental and physical well-being at any age.
Physical activity is a cornerstone for wellness and significantly improves overall health. Yet, only one in four adults meet the physical activity recommendations for aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities, which increases their risk of developing chronic health conditions such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.
To help you take steps toward a healthier you, University of Illinois Extension is offering, in partnership with the Senior Resource Center, Move More for Better Health on Friday, June 27, from 1 to 3 p.m. This session is designed with seniors in mind and will occur at the Senior Center, 206 E Stephenson St, Freeport, IL. There is a $5.00 fee, which includes all educational materials. Pre-registration is required.
During this session, you will learn the difference between physical activity and exercise, the recommended amount and types of physical activity, and the importance of staying active as you age. You will also learn about how aging impacts your ability to engage in physical activity, the risks associated with a sedentary lifestyle, the importance of setting goals, and resources you can access at home to help you stay active.
No matter your current activity level, this session will provide practical, encouraging guidance to help you incorporate more movement into your daily routine. Don’t miss this opportunity to invest in your health and well-being. Join us and take the first step toward moving more for better health! You can register for this program by calling the Extension office at (815) 235-4125 or visit us online at go.illinois.edu/jsw/events.
