DANVILLE, Ill. — Calling all creative kids! The University of Illinois Extension and 4-H in Vermilion County office are hosting a new 4-H Sewing SPIN Club, offering a fun and educational opportunity to learn sewing basics and create handmade projects.
The club will meet at the Vermilion County Extension Office (3164 North Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61832) with kids ages 10-13 meeting from 10 a.m. until noon and kids 14-18 meeting from 1 – 3 p.m. on the following dates:
- February 8 - Getting to Know Your Machine
- February 22 – Sew Your Own Pillowcase
- March 8 - Intro to Quilting
The cost is $10 per session, and space is limited. Registration is complete once payment is received. A waitlist will be formed if sessions fill up. You can register by visiting go.illinois.edu/SewingClub.
In this hands-on program, participants will learn from experienced sewing instructors while utilizing all materials provided, including a complimentary sewing kit to jumpstart their journey. They will gain valuable experience using sewing machines set up for their convenience and receive a free 4-H clothing project guide to further their learning.
Membership in 4-H is required to participate in the Sewing SPIN Club. If your child is not enrolled in 4-H, contact Megan Stites at mstites2@illinois.edu or 217-442-8615 or to assist with 4-H enrollment or answer questions about scholarship opportunities.

The family, inspired by the memory of their mother, Betty Carlton, an accomplished seamstress, wishes to share their love of sewing with the next generation.
