Kendall County Livestock Auction Committee Marks 40 Years and Historic 2020 Program
Over the last few years, Kendall County 4-H Livestock Auction buyers set records for purchases from local 4-H members. This year, the program faces two more historic milestones – the 40th anniversary of program and the first year without a live auction event.
"With the 2020 Kendall County Fair cancellation and 4-H shows moving to a virtual format, we find ourselves in uncharted territory," said Jodi Brummel, president of the Kendall County 4-H Fair Livestock Auction committee. "Our 4-H members have already purchased their animals, and their projects are underway. The expenses include, not only the cost of the animal, but veterinary costs, feed, and utilities. Many of our 4-H livestock youth are saving to purchase next year’s projects, as well as for their future education."
The Kendall County committee is one of the few counties providing 4-H members with an alternative means of support in place of a 2020 auction event, usually held at the county fair. This year, no animals are being sold and no locker appointments are available. Instead, all donations from the sponsorship drive will be divided among each qualifying 4-H member to help defray expenses.
"After considering several options, our committee concluded that a sponsorship drive was the optimal choice," said Brummel. "To continue supporting local livestock youth, the committee needs community support during this time."
Funds generated will be divided based off the 2019 auction species percentage results. Levels of sponsorship include: diamond, gold, silver, and bronze, and any amount will be greatly appreciated, said Brummel.
Livestock participants will be showing their animals virtually, and pictures of the auction participants with their animals will be available starting July 26 on the Facebook event page. They also can be viewed in this PDF album and may be linked on the Kendall County Fair website.
"We hope you will consider being part of this alternative fundraising opportunity," said Brummel.
How it works: Each qualifying 4-H member will receive funds collected to help defray their expenses. Funds generated through this sponsorship drive will be divided based off the 2019 auction species percentage results. Levels of sponsorship include: diamond, gold, silver, and bronze, and any amount will be greatly appreciated. Sponsorship levels will be included in future auction advertising thanking donors.
