Physical activity is a cornerstone for wellness, and although most of us know this, it is much easier said than done. Therefore, we must all be intentional about making physical activity and exercise a priority. Regular physical activity improves brain health, reduces your risk of chronic health conditions such as heart disease and diabetes, strengthens bones and muscles, and helps you manage your body weight.

Although you can walk almost anywhere, anytime, and it does not require special equipment, sometimes it's hard to maintain interest. However, walking with a friend or loved one makes walking more exciting and fun, and you will likely stick to your commitment. If you are looking for a bit of motivation this summer and a friend to walk with, join Nutrition and Wellness Educator Diane Reinhold as we embark on another 4-week walking club, Heart and Sole.

You can register for one class or all four sessions. Each class will occur at one of our partnering agency's locations listed below and begin at 10 a.m. Various topics will be covered each week, including the benefits of walking, why healthy eating matters as you age, staying safe outdoors in the summer, and finding the best physical activity for your lifestyle, as the class walks for about 20 minutes.

  • Wednesday, June 5, Benefits of Walking, Krape Park concession area, 1799 Park Blvd, Freeport, IL.
  • Wednesday, June 12, What You Eat Matters, Freeport Public Library, 100 E Douglas St, Freeport, IL.
