Youth Leadership Academy will consist of five sessions throughout the school year. Each session will have a defined agenda, focusing on leadership topics such as personality assessments, communication, decision making, community service and more.
Each session will run from 9:00 am to 1:45 pm to allow time for transportation to/from YLA. Exact dates and locations of each session will be sent as soon as participation is confirmed. For now, participants can plan on the sessions occurring on one Friday each month during October, November, December, January, and February. Our first session is tentatively scheduled for Friday, October 17. Participants will be expected to attend ALL sessions, unless prior notification and approval is obtained.
To be eligible for Youth Leadership Academy, you must:
- Maintain a āCā average or higher
- Be in Junior Class standing
- Be in good standing with your school and local authorities
- Remain enrolled in school and have approval from school administration to participate
- Agree to participate in all sessions (In the event of a conflict, you must contact Extension staff prior to the session.)
- Abide by the Illinois 4-H Member Code of Conduct standards (enclosed - Extension staff will work with participants to address any behavior concerns; continued issues may result in dismissal from YLA)
Youth Leadership Academy is an opportunity to build your leadership skills while networking with your peers. Many students in the past have noted their experience in YLA on scholarship and college applications, resumes, etc.
If you are interested in applying for Youth Leadership Academy, we ask that you please complete the registration by September 12. There is a registration fee of $125 per participant to help cover meals and supplies. Financial assistance is available through the Extension Office, if needed.
