TREES! Foresight Is Better Than Hindsight

Join Champaign County Master Gardeners and guest lecturer Mike Brunk, retired Arborist with the City of Urbana, on Tues., Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Champaign Extension Auditorium.  While you can plant trees in the spring or fall, fall is usually the best time to plant.

In the presentation you will learn about:

  • Tree selection
  • Tree establishment
  • Fundamental care
  • Natives vs. non-natives

Mike Brunk is a seasoned professional who recently retired from the City of Urbana after 33 years.  According to the City of Urbana’s website, Mike has:

  • Created a nationally recognized "how to" tree publication that shows homeowners tree selection, greenscape planning, and sustained care titled Under the Canopy. This publication also raises public awareness of how beneficial trees are the eco-sphere, and it generates revenue for the City of Urbana. To date, over a half a million copies have been distributed
  • Initiated and developed the the Urbana Legacy Tree Program
  • Developed the Urbana Greenscapes program to solicit outside funding for green-space development and care
  • Transformed a tax-subsidized recycling operation into the first self-sustaining municipally-operated yard waste recycling program in the Midwest that utilizes land from a former landfill. This operation now serves the East Central Illinois region

This presentation is free and open to the public.  Should you need reasonable accommodations, contact tabithae@illinois.edu.
