Whether you’re just starting or updating your knowledge, Illinois Extension Educator Mary Liz Wright will teach you about home food preservation during an in-person program on Monday, August 16 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Clark County Extension Office. A fee of $5.00 will cover the purchase of supplies.
“Canning is a great way to make the most of fresh produce and have it available throughout the year,“ Wright says.
“More than ever people are growing their own food, and it is important to know the latest scientific updates on the canning process.”
During this 2 hour workshop, you will have the opportunity to review the basics of canning, receive the latest safety guidelines, practice hands-on canning, and take home a jar of pickles. If you have a dial gauge pressure canner, bring it along to have it tested for accuracy.
Wright says, “There is a potential for unsafe processing if the gauge reads the pressure incorrectly.”
