Developing Skills for Life: Spotlight on Public Speaking
Monday, Feb. 20 (Presidents Day) | 2 to 4 p.m. | Naperville
Public speaking is a lifelong skill that can help young people now and in the future! Growing this skill set can help:
- Enhance planning and organizational abilities
- Increase comfort for school presentations and job or scholarship interviews
- Encourage leadership roles and opportunities
- Improve communications skills
- Increase self-discipline and confidence
Instructor Maria Boundas Bakalis, Ed.D, Professor of Communications at Waubonsee Community College and Director of Curtain Up Classroom Theatre, will lead this special Presidents Day workshop focused on public speaking. With her expert, engaging, and encouraging style, Dr. B helps youth build self-esteem and skills for the art of public speaking.
Ages: 10-18 (as of 9/1/22)
Meets: Monday, Feb. 20 | 2 to 4 p.m.
Location: DuPage County Extension office, 1100 E. Warrenville Road, Suite 170, Naperville 60563
Cost to participate: $15 per youth participant
Important notes:
- No need to be a 4-H member to participate.
- For 4-H members participating in the 2023 Public Speaking Contest, Dr. B can provide feedback on your work. Please provide a copy of your speech one week in advance of the workshop so she can review it and be prepared to help you on the day of the workshop.
