Northern Illinois Native Tree Diversity

Our native trees bring beauty, shade, and wildlife habitat to our yards and timberlands.  Northern Illinois Native Tree Diversity will be the topic of discussion presented by Chris Evans, University of Illinois Extension Forestry Specialist, on Oct. 1 at 1:30 pm.  The free program will be held at the Forest Preserves of Winnebago County headquarters at 5500 Northrock Dr., Rockford, IL 61103.  Pre-registration is requested; please visit our Registration Site or call 815-986-4357 to register and for more information.

Chris will bring his years of forestry management experience to the discussion of benefits and care of the variety of trees native to our area.  Whether in rural timberlands or urban landscapes, native trees are adapted to grow in this area and provide habitat for a variety of native fauna.  Chris will talk about the variety of species historically common to the area, identification tips, and benefits and challenges for many of these trees.  He will also share tips on selecting the right native tree-site combination for new trees, along with care for existing trees.

University of Illinois Extension is excited to collaborate with Forest Preserves of Winnebago County to offer this program.
