Community members are invited to join the East Central Illinois Master Naturalists for a fall workday at Sibley Burr Oak Grove Nature Preserve on Saturday, Oct. 10.
The Sibley Burr Oak Grove Fall Workday will begin with check-in from 8:30 to 9 a.m., followed by volunteer work from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will meet at the northwest corner of the grove, with parking available on E 1250 N Road.
During the workday, volunteers will help clear a new picnic area in preparation for installing a picnic table provided by the Scouts. The project is part of ongoing efforts to improve the preserve while maintaining its natural character and providing opportunities for community members to enjoy the site.
Volunteers should wear long pants, sturdy shoes and work gloves.
Individuals with an Illinois Pesticide Applicator or Operator license are invited to assist with applying glyphosate to woody stumps. Licensed volunteers should email a copy of their license to Griesbaum at kherzma2@illinois.edu. Individuals who completed Extension's herbicide training in January may also apply herbicide under the guidance of a licensed individual, as Extension has their certification on file.
Participants who wish to use electric or gas-powered equipment must provide their own equipment and complete a signed waiver. Individuals using their own equipment are responsible for all liability associated with its use.
