SYCAMORE, Ill. – University of Illinois Extension in DeKalb County developed a new 4-H club for clients of Opportunity House, a non-profit community sponsored rehabilitation center serving adults with developmental disabilities in DeKalb County, with club sponsorship from Sycamore Kiwanis Club. The inaugural Opportunity House Special 4-H General Projects Day fair is set for September 5, from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the DeKalb County Farm Bureau Building, 1350 West Prairie Drive in Sycamore.

Individuals will meet with volunteer judges to discuss their projects and receive recognition ribbons. Members have developed art journals, DNA Bracelets, and other visual art projects. The 4-H members are proud of their projects and are excited to share about their success.

The public is invited to attend and view over 40 projects that will be on display. Sycamore Kiwanis Club is sponsoring a dinner and reception that evening for the 4-H members and their families.

Monthly meetings are held at Opportunity House and led by trained leaders with assistance from Extension Staff. Club officers for the Opportunity House Helpers 4-H Club are as follows, President, Matt Rowan; Vice President, Randy Schafer; and Secretary, Tara Doll.  Members have participated in a variety of other activities including a visit from a police officer and are planning an upcoming field trip to Dean and Charlene Johnson’s farm. 4-H is a wonderful way to support and encourage growth and leadership for members as they continue to develop positive attitudes about themselves and the abilities they possess.
