FREEPORT, ILL. Strong social connections are vital to healthy aging. One way to connect and build meaningful relationships is by participating in group activities that bring people together through shared interests, experiences, and goals. Group activities benefit everyone, especially older adults, as they help reduce feelings of loneliness, encourage social engagement, and provide physical and mental stimulation. They also contribute to a sense of purpose, belonging, and well-being.

If you’d like to connect with others, are interested in expanding your knowledge of health and wellness, or are simply intrigued by this month’s topic, we invite you to join us on Thursday, August 21, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Senior Resource Center, 206 E Stephenson St, Freeport, IL. University of Illinois Extension, in partnership with the Senior Resource Center, is excited to offer a lifelong learner’s favorite: Honey and Health: Nature’s Sweet Treat.

Honey is nature’s golden gift, crafted from flower nectar and transformed by bees into a delicious and versatile sweetener. With over 300 varieties, each boasting unique colors, aromas, and flavors, honey’s appeal continues to grow for its taste, nutritional, and therapeutic benefits.

In this program, we’ll explore the basics of honey, its sensory attributes, common terminology, and many uses. You’ll also get to take home easy and delicious honey-infused recipes to make at home. Whether you’re a honey enthusiast or just curious to learn more, this session will be a sweet experience!

There is a $5.00 fee for this program, which includes all educational materials. Pre-registration is requested. You can register for this program by calling U of I Extension at (815) 235-4125 or on-line at go.illinois.edu/jsw. We hope to see you there, come for the knowledge, stay for the connection!
