The fifth annual STEM Academy is an amazing week-long experience sponsored by Pearl Technology, Richwoods Township, University of Illinois Extension Fulton-Mason-Peoria-Tazewell Unit, and Caterpillar.
At STEM Academy 2021 we will dive into the world of neural networks and machine learning (tinyML). Students will be working with an Arduino Tiny Machine Learning Kit and Edge Impulse to train the device to recognize images and sounds. Students will keep their project at the end of the STEM Academy and will have opportunities to continue working with the platform.
The camp is for youth entering 6th-8th grade. Due to the limited number of openings for the camp (25), registration for the program starts with this application process. This online application should be completed by the youth interested in attending 2021 STEM Academy. Applicants will be selected based on their responses to the questions on the application.
Youth selected for STEM Academy will receive a camp supply kit. Participants will pick up the kit at the University of Illinois Extension office in Peoria prior to the sessions that will include the materials they need for the sessions, as well as some fun additional activities.
The application deadline is May 17. Youth will be notified of their acceptance by May 21.
Students will learn about:
- basic coding/programming skills
- local STEM Careers
- problem-solving and design thinking
- The cost of the STEM Academy is $25.00 per child. Materials provided to the youth during the camp are provided by the generosity of Pearl Technology and far exceed the registration fee for the camp. The camp is provided through a partnership with Pearl Technology, Richwoods Township, University of Illinois Extension Fulton-Mason-Peoria-Tazewell Unit, and Caterpillar. Scholarships are available if needed.
