More about what youth will do and learn:
The 4-H Teen Federation youth will lead the workshop, and show youth participants how to make a foil relief design that can be added to a signboard, to a log slice for an ornament, or to a jar. By "antiquing" the foil, they can make the design pop and create a vintage look.
Participants also will create cards, gift tags, and ornaments with the leftover stencil shapes, adding paint, glitter, and glue. The group also will learn how to make plain yogurt with milk, a crockpot, and starter, and will make a healthy trail mix, which can be sprinkled over the top or given as a gift.
During this workshop, youth participants will gain experience with:
- What types of glue work best on paper, ribbon, glass, and wood items
- How to successfully reproduce a shape with a stencil
- Complementary colors and design techniques, such as "antiquing"
- Equipment including a hand press Sisex cutter, Electric Cricut cutter, and scissors
- Testing hardness and age of several types of wood
