Beginner Sewing Workshop Series

June 21, 23, 27 & 29 | 10 a.m. to noon

Summer Youth Workshop with Kendall County 4-H

Learn how to use your own sewing machine (bring it along to use) and practice skills in the multi-session program. Each participant will complete a level one sewing project, which may even be eligible for your 4-H Show. More information and registration available May 9. $20 for four-part workshop. Ages 8-18.

Registration required. Space is limited.

More about the sessions:

  • In the 1st and 2nd sessions:
    • Participants will learn to thread their machine, make a bobbin, sew consistent seams, and practice sewing a straight seam.
    • They will use sewing tools like scissors, cutting wheel, and cutting mat, while creating a tissue or book cover.
    • Participants also will learn how to clip corners, turn and iron seams.
    • They will learn about patterns, cutting, fabric types, weights, and discuss differences of patterned fabric.
    • If time allows, each will make a drawstring bag.
    • Participants will be shown a pattern and materials that are needed for a bedroom pillowcase.
  • In the 3rd and 4th sessions:
    • By the 3rd meeting, youth will need to get supplies to create a custom pillowcase to match their own room or bed accessories. (More information on this provided in 2nd session)
    • Each participant will complete the pillowcase and have a mock judging with a seamstress to discuss progress.
