This webinar will cover the 2022 mid-terms and offer analysis on national, state, and rural impact by Dr. John Jackson, SIU Paul Simon Public Policy Institute, and former Chancellor of SIU Carbondale. Dr. Jackson will discuss considerations of what the 2022 mid-terms indicate about the 2024 elections. Dr. Jackson is a frequent contributor to local, state, and national media coverage of government and politics. Participants can expect to hear his analysis of Illinois election results and their potential impact on local government and rural development. Attendees are invited to participate in a Q and A after the presentation.
About the presenter:
John S. Jackson has had a four-decade career as a teacher, researcher, administrator and as Southern Illinois University Carbondale's 17th Chancellor. He served as vice chancellor for academic affairs and provost from 1996 to 1999. He served 11 years as dean of the SIUC College of Liberal Arts, one of the University's largest and most academically diverse colleges. He became vice-chancellor in 1996 after serving as associate dean of liberal arts, and associate dean and acting dean of the Graduate School from 1980 to 1983. He played a pivotal role in winning grants to train international students in government, politics, and law. In recent years, he has showcased the campus, the State of Illinois, and the nation to international students and professionals who have come to the United States as part of a summer institute on American government and politics. Jackson, a native of Waldo, Arkansas, came to SIUC in September 1969 as an instructor in the government department (now SIUC's Department of Political Science). He was promoted to assistant professor in 1970, associate professor in 1973, and professor in 1978. He is known for his on-camera political commentary and his expertise in U.S. presidential elections. Jackson joined the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute in 2002 and directs the Institute's internship programs and edits the Simon Review series, to which he is a frequent contributor.
