We are inviting local elected officials, zoning committee members, municipal and county staff, and other local leaders outside of government to have a guided conversation on what you view as the largest needs surrounding education and resources for renewable energy planning, including the siting process.

Andrea Wagner, Extension’s new, statewide energy specialist, will be leading the discussion. She is interested in learning about your local energy issues, your experiences with renewable energy development in the region, and what educational opportunities you may be interested in. Along with dual degrees in Community and Regional Planning and Sustainable Agriculture, she brings experience as a county planner to the energy conversation.

We want to hear what concerns and issues you’ve encountered, as well as what you may be curious to learn more about so that communities can make informed decisions about renewable energy. Your input is extremely valuable in helping us develop the best possible educational programs, which will be offered statewide.

What to prepare: Nothing but a willingness to provide your opinions, insights, or experiences regarding renewable energy! Even if you are new to the energy space but feel curious about engaging with it further, we want you to join us and add your valuable insights to the discussion.

What to expect: A guided discussion on what you think is relevant and timely to be included in future Illinois Extension programming, which will aim to educate local leaders and members of the public about renewable energy so that they are more comfortable engaging on this topic.

Target audience: local elected officials, zoning committee members, municipal and county staff, and non-profit or other local leaders
