Springtime Science Series is a collaboration between Illinois Extension and Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Institute at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign as part of the Community Seminar Series.

Signing up is easy:

  • Sessions are free, and registration is required.
  • Choose as many sessions within the series as you wish to attend.
  • Complete the registration process.
  • CPDU and CEUs are available: CEUs are provided through the Continuing Education Institute of Illinois. Once you have registered for your desired sessions, please check your registration confirmation email for a link to purchase CEUs.

July 3, 2024 | Noon: When Silence Grows Louder: Aging and Its Impact on Hearing - POSTPONED until fall series

What do we know about age-related hearing loss? Older adults often experience ear and hearing-related issues such as ringing in the ears and difficulty hearing daily sounds like alarms and conversations in quiet or noisy backgrounds. These issues can eventually lead to social isolation, cognitive problems, and a decline in overall quality of life. Learn about age-related hearing loss and what we can do about it. *July 17, 2024 | Noon: Technology Use in Older Adults: Aging with Multiple Sclerosis

More people with multiple sclerosis (MS), a common and disabling neurological disease, are reaching old age than ever before. Fortunately, technological advancements have created new ways to manage MS and complete daily living activities. We will discuss how people aging with MS are using tools and technologies in their daily lives and the challenges they face while using these products. Presenter: Camryn Lynn.

July 24, 2024 | Noon: Balancing the Mind and Body: Yoga and Healthy Aging

The practice of yoga encompasses a variety of techniques to balance the mind and body, with many health-promoting benefits. Discover how yoga can promote healthy aging for older adults by improving physical functioning, brain health, psychological functioning, and social connection. July 31, 2024 | Noon: Tick Bites and Tick-borne Diseases: The Interplay of Human Knowledge and Behavior

This presentation provides an overview of how human behavior can impact our risk of tick bites and tickborne diseases. Attendees will hear about ticks and tickborne diseases, learn lessons from two human behavior studies conducted in Illinois, and get tips on protecting ourselves and animals against ticks.
