For over 100 years, 4-H has been helping young people become leaders through community engagement and skill development. Now, 4-H is continuing these efforts by partnering with the Canton Family YMCA to address bullying and to foster social and emotional development in young people.
The 4-H Youth Development Program through University of Illinois Extension serving Fulton, Mason, Peoria, and Tazewell Counties will be offering the Be S.A.F.E. (Safe, Affirming, and Fair Environments) program at the Y. Participants in Be S.A.F.E. will make deep connections with other young people by discussing issues that matter is a secure and welcoming setting. A few of the issues addressed will include cyberbullying, moving from bystanders to allies, and emotional intelligence. Participants will have the opportunity to make new friends, learn ways keep themselves safe, and protect others from bullying.
Be S.A.F.E. sessions will be offered on various Wednesdays throughout the school year at YMCA Fun House, the new after school program for Junior High Students. Young people, ages 10-14, can attend from 3:15-5:15pm in the Y Community Room, with Be S.A.F.E. sessions beginning at 4:15pm. Activities are free for Y members and $5 for non-members. Snacks are included. Be S.A.F.E. sessions will be held on the following Wednesdays from 4:15-5:15pm:
