Brain Health Series Success

Crowd of class participants listen to presentation on signs of Alzheimer's

SAVOY, Ill – Earlier this month, local residents gathered for four sessions of the research-informed series, Brain Health – It’s A No Brainer at Windsor of Savoy. This series educated adults about normal memory change, highlighting healthy brain contributors, and strategies to improve everyday forgetfulness.

Each session was filled with an engaging audience who asked probing questions regarding brain health while sipping their morning coffees. The audience showed great appreciation for the knowledge shared with them.

“Each year, the topic of brain health is the most requested topic, and this year has been no different,” said Extension Family Life Educator Emily Harmon. Brain health is an important matter to be aware of, but research shows most don’t educate themselves about the topic until they believe they may be showing signs of brain related conditions or upon diagnosis.

For the final session of the series, Extension’s Family and Consumer Sciences team collaborated with the Alzheimer's Association for their talk on Know the Ten Signs: Early Detection Matters. The presentation emphasized the importance of knowing the signs and having a support system to go through this process with.

Several sessions of this series even included a few couples. Presenters appreciated seeing participants coming to the session with a friend or partner, as having social support is a brain health contributor.
