First steps in dealing with diabetes

According to the CDC, 10.5% of the United States population has diabetes. A diagnosis of diabetes doesn’t have to leave one feeling alone. Those with diabetes have more resources than ever before.

Illinois Extension regularly offers in-person and virtual classes and provides online resources for those with the disease and for their family members. A nutrition and wellness educator, Mary Liz Wright, taught one such course at the Marshall Public Library.

Participants learned to set realistic goals, what their body is going through, what to eat, and how to stay active. A second session introduced different resources and available services.
