Fulton County 4-H Horse Show held

LEWISTOWN, Ill. - University of Illinois Extension’s Fulton County 4-H Program held its Official 4-H Horse Show on Saturday, August 7, at the Fulton County Horse Arena at the Fairgrounds in Lewistown.  Judge for the day was Rebekah Irish of Galva, Illinois, an instructor in Equine Science at Black Hawk College.  Twenty youth and 27 horses and ponies participated.

High Point Senior Exhibitor of the day was Autumn Corbett.  High Point Junior Exhibitor of the day was Paige Johnson.  Grand Champion Halter Horse went to Aubrianna Putman with RH Bar Chips.  Reserve went to Aubrey Yarger with AC.  Grand Champion Halter Pony went to Autumn Corbett with Twister, and Reserve went to Aubrey Yarger with Star.  Grand Champion Performance Horse honors went to Shasta, ridden by Autumn Corbett; Reserve went to Junie B, ridden by Paige Johnson. Grand Champion Performance Pony honors went to Sassy, ridden by Allie Ralston; Reserve went to Twister, ridden by Autumn Corbett.

The top six places in the individual classes were as follows: 

Western Horse Halter, Stock Type – first to Aubrianna Putman with RH Bar Chips; second to Aubrey Yarger with AC; third, Taylor Johnson with Frannie; fourth, Bryley Nelson with Cowgirl; fifth, Brayton McCoy with Tater; and sixth, Emily Porter with Kitty.

Color Breed Halter – first to Amy Shaeffer with Endeavor; second, Trenten Kimbro with Paige; third, Paige Johnson with Junie B; and fourth, Sara Stufflebeam with Dunn Dee Dolly’s Parton.

English Halter – first to Kaylee Grebner with Mandy.

Pony Halter, under 52” – first place to Hannah Tindall with Button; and second to Brayton McCoy with Murphy.

Pony Halter, 52” and under 56” – first to Autumn Corbett with Twister; second, Aubrey Yarger with Star; third, Riley Grebner with Candy; fourth, Allie Ralston with Sassy; and fifth, Kalvin Gorsuch with Sugar.

Senior Showmanship, Halter, Horse or Pony – first to Maggie Grebner with Peaches; second, Halle Tindall with Bo; third, Autumn Corbett with Shasta; fourth, Amy Shaeffer with Endeavor; fifth, Emily Porter with Kitty; and sixth, Allie Ralston with Sassy.

English Pleasure, Horse or Pony – first place to Autumn Corbett with Shasta; second, Maggie Grebner with Hank; third, Paige Johnson with Junie B; fourth, Taylor Johnson with Frannie; fifth, Kaylee Grebner with Mandy; and sixth, Halle Tindall with Bo.

Costume, Horse or Pony, Junior Rider – first place to Brayton McCoy with Tater; second, Hannah Tindall with Button; third, Paige Johnson with Junie B; fourth, Mia Holthaus with Nik Nak; fifth, Aubrianna Putman with RH Bar Chips; and sixth, Kalvin Gorsuch with Sugar. 

Costumes included a fisherman, doctor and patient, patriot, soldier, scout, Little Bo Beep and her lamb, Hawaiian girl, and bobby soxer. 

Costume, Horse or Pony, Senior Rider – first place to Autumn Corbett with Shasta; second, Halle Tindall with Bo; and third, Allie Ralston with Sassy.  Costumes included a beach girl, patriot, and Lilo and Stitch.  These classes are always fun, and show lots of creative ideas.

Walk-Trot Horse – first place to Trenten Kimbro with Paige.

Western Pleasure Pony, Junior Rider – first to Aubrey Yarger with Star; second, Riley Grebner with Candy; third, Hannah Tindall with Button; and fourth, Kalvin Gorsuch with Sugar.

Western Pleasure Pony, Senior Rider – first to Autumn Corbett with Twister; second, Halle Tindall with Buton; and third, Allie Ralston with Sassy.

Pole Bending, Pony – first place to Allie Ralston with Sassy; second, Kalvin Gorsuch with Sugar; third, Riley Grebner with Buford; fourth, Autumn Corbett with Twister; fifth, Aubrey Yarger with Star; and sixth, Hannah Tindall with Button.

Barrel Racing, Horse – first to Autumn Corbett with Shasta; second, Emily Porter with Kitty; third, Halle Tindall with Bo; fourth, Paige Johnson with Junie B; fifth, Emma Gorsuch with Smoky; and sixth, Kaylee Grebner with Mandy.

Plug Race, Horse – first to Autumn Corbett with Shasta; second, Emily Porter with Kitty; third, Halle Tindall with Bo; fourth, Paige Johnson with Junie B; fifth, Amy Shaeffer with Endeavor; and sixth, Emma Gorsuch with Smoky.

Plug Race, Pony – first to Allie Ralston with Sassy; second, Autumn Corbett with Twister; third, Kalvin Gorsuch with Sugar; fourth, Hannah Tindall with Button; and fifth,, Riley Grebner with Buford.

Many area businesses and individuals gave of their money and time to make this event possible.  The organizers are very grateful to those who donated money for the prizes.  High Point Exhibitors received lettered chairs.  Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion winners received personalized halters or beaded halters.

A 4-H belt buckle was donated by Darren Clendenny, in memory of Diane Simons and JoAnn Block.  These two ladies were long-time 4-H leaders and 4-H Horse Show volunteers, who both passed away in recent years.  The winner of the drawing for the belt buckle was Allie Ralston.  Darren also had a plaque made that hangs in the Extension Office with each year’s winner listed.  Special congratulations went to Amy Shaeffer on her many years in the 4-H Horse Shows, as she is aging out of the program.

4-H Horse Committee members and others helping at this event included Kathy Butler, Cindy Chaffin, Susie Weaver, Penny Smith, Vanessa Smith, Brad Johnson, and Doug Tindall.  Janis Blout and Krista Gray, Extension Program Coordinators, coordinated plans, recorded entries, and announced.
